NVIDIA is donating its Dynamic Resource Allocation (DRA) Driver for GPUs to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), transferring ownership from NVIDIA to the broader Kubernetes community. The driver enables smarter GPU sharing via Multi-Process Service and Multi-Instance GPU, supports massive-scale multi-node NVLink interconnects for training large AI models, and allows dynamic hardware reconfiguration. Announced at KubeCon Europe in Amsterdam, the move is backed by industry partners including AWS, Google Cloud, Red Hat, and others. Additional announcements include GPU support for Kata Containers for confidential computing, the KAI Scheduler becoming a CNCF Sandbox project, and new open source projects such as Grove (a Kubernetes API for orchestrating AI workloads), NVSentinel, AI Cluster Runtime, NemoClaw, and OpenShell.
