Google Cloud, in collaboration with Future Connections, is enhancing the Autonomous Network Operations framework by introducing two innovative AI agents: the Autonomous Data Steward and the Core Network VoLTE Agent. These additions mark a significant step toward creating self-healing, fully autonomous telecom networks, as showcased at MWC 2026.
The Autonomous Data Steward is powered by Gemini and addresses the challenge of telecom data silos by employing a zero-copy architecture that integrates with the Dataplex Universal Catalog. This integration facilitates semantic data discovery, dynamic ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process creation, and cross-domain data unification. As a result, operators can achieve greater efficiency and insight into their data ecosystems.
Building upon this robust foundation, the Core Network VoLTE Agent provides real-time monitoring of IMS/VoLTE networks. It leverages advanced AI for intelligent root cause analysis of call quality issues and offers automated remediation recommendations. One NZ, a New Zealand operator, has already adopted this agent in a production environment, showcasing its practical benefits.
At the heart of these advancements is an evolved network digital twin, developed on Cloud Spanner Graph. This digital twin, along with a unified graph data layer combining Cloud Spanner and BigQuery, eliminates ETL bottlenecks. Furthermore, real-time failure prediction is achieved through Graph Neural Networks that are trained within Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
To support the autonomous network ecosystems, the framework features open-sourced telco data pipeline code available on GitHub. Additionally, ongoing ecosystem partnerships with industry leaders like Nokia, NetAI, MasOrange, and FutureConnections underscore a collective push toward achieving Level 4–5 network autonomy, where networks can independently reroute traffic and restore call quality without human intervention.
