adoc-mode 0.8 is a major release of the Emacs major mode for AsciiDoc editing. Key new features include native syntax highlighting for code blocks using the appropriate language major mode, inline image previews (including remote images), improved navigation with adoc-follow-thing-at-point and hierarchical imenu, and highlighting of Asciidoctor-specific inline macros. The release also fixes numerous long-standing bugs including typing lag in code blocks and Emacs hangs from escaped curly braces. Internally, the minimum Emacs version is bumped to 28.1 and the codebase has been restructured. The author also announces asciidoc-mode, a separate lighter-weight tree-sitter-based alternative for Emacs 30.1+.
