Computing technologies have brought both benefits and harms. Anticipating and addressing these impacts is essential. There are challenges in foreseeing the effects, but methods and approaches are being developed to improve our understanding. Incentives and institutional structures often hinder the anticipation of harms, but direct engagement with impacted communities and changes in organizational cultures can help. Policy and regulatory approaches may also be necessary. Addressing harms is a difficult task, but efforts are being made to mitigate them.
