In today's job market, especially in startups, applying effort into job applications is crucial. Many companies, overwhelmed by the volume of applications, filter based on seemingly minor details like grammar, cover letters, and completeness of the application. Candidates should pay attention to these aspects to stand out and increase their chances of being considered.

The audacity of this article is striking. I think a more apt title would be “Dance, Monkey.”
The author makes a good point, there is a lack of effort in today’s hiring process, but it’s not coming from the applicants. The average company does not know how to find talent. They tend to think years of experience are a good indicator of ability, and thus an engineer who’s written the same SQL prompts for 5 years is “more qualified” than one who’s built projects from start to finish using SQL for 2. Is your most experienced colleague always the most productive?
At the last hiring fair I attended, only 4 companies bothered to show up, and half of them had no interest in engaging with job seekers other than to say “apply on our website.” Something is wrong when your process is indistinguishable from walking into Wendy’s and asking for a job.
Maybe we should ask ourselves why job seekers are forced to play the numbers game instead of demanding they waste their afternoons tailoring an application to a company who will refuse to engage with them because of a typo, which many would consider to be psychopathic behavior.
I’d love to see the emails this author has written on the job, because by their own admission, they aren’t qualified to work at their own company if they’ve ever made a simple mistake.
