ACF 6.8.1 introduces a new opt-in wp.data datastore (acf/fields) that integrates ACF fields into Gutenberg's native save flow, enabling full post revision support, autosave integration, and a JavaScript API for reading/writing field values. The release also adds block bindings with live preview so editors can visually connect block attributes to ACF fields without code, and allows field groups to be defined inline in block.json files. A security fix addresses a multisite privilege escalation where subsite admins could trigger upgrades on other network sites. The datastore requires WordPress 6.7+ and is opt-in via a filter, currently available in ACF PRO only.
