Banking group Absa has tapped the man behind M-Pesa's continental expansion to lead its personal banking franchise.

Absa Group appointed Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, former M-Pesa Africa MD, as CEO of its personal and private banking division starting April 1st. Lopokoiyit spent over 12 years at Safaricom scaling M-Pesa to 56 million customers and 5 million businesses across Africa. The bank also announced several other executive changes including new appointments for chief governance officer, chief internal audit officer, and chief compliance officer as part of its pan-African strategy restructuring.
