A research study analyzing 65,000 web articles from CommonCrawl reveals that AI-generated content now exceeds human-written articles in quantity as of November 2024. The study found dramatic growth in AI content following ChatGPT's launch in November 2022, reaching 39% of all articles within 12 months, before plateauing around 50%. Using Surfer's AI detection algorithm with a 4.2% false positive rate and 0.6% false negative rate, researchers classified articles based on their AI-generated content percentage. The study notes that AI-assisted articles (human-edited AI drafts) were not evaluated and may be even more prevalent, while separate research indicates AI-generated articles perform poorly in search results.

I think it is very important to differentiate between “AI-generated” and “AI-assisted”.
I know the article mentions this but i still wanted to make that very clear.
When i write articles i use AI for inspiration, for cleaning up my text and grammar, for challenging my opinion, for creating good witty jokes, for all kinds of things.
Still my articles are majorly written by me and only include my opinion and knowledge.
I am 100% sure other people writing blog posts are doing the exact same thing.
I am pretty sure this thing could classify my texts as AI-generated although it is just AI-assisted.
I think this sucks because the problem in my opinion is not AI-generated or not, i think the problem is carelessness and trying to not actually do the work.

I’ve been a writer for over thirty years and refuse to use AI to write an article. It goes against everything I hold dear. The great “Dumbing Down” has begun when it comes to relaying viable information to the public (in terms of journalism and non-fiction work…just look at the Washington Post after Bezos took it over.). I shudder to think what sort of “masterpiece of art” book written by AI will be the next bestseller.
And while I say all of that above, I really do feel it important to note that AI use for editing and adding to work is no biggie as that is what it is intended for.

isn’t the major problem with AI the lack of new data? I read something about creating synthetic data is the new thing but highly risky because you need to somehow administrate/moderate and understand it?
