Google's Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol celebrates its first anniversary. Originally announced in April 2025, A2A was donated to the Linux Foundation in June 2025, making it a vendor-neutral, community-governed standard. The project now has over 100 supporting companies including AWS, Microsoft, Cisco, and Salesforce. A major milestone was reached in March with the release of A2A Protocol v1.0, the first stable production-ready version. Key achievements include Signed Agent Cards for cryptographic identity verification, web-aligned architecture for enterprise deployments, and demonstrated interoperability across frameworks like LangGraph, AG2, and CrewAI. The A2A ecosystem is expanding with related protocols including AP2, A2UI, and UCP, and is designed to complement MCP by handling external coordination between autonomous agents.
