Michal Masny, the NC Ethics of Technology Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT, researches the value of work and its role in human well-being, arguing that eliminating work entirely would not be unambiguously beneficial. He advocates for closing the 'wisdom gap' between scientists/engineers and philosophers/lawyers, warning that the pace of technological deployment has made the traditional division of labor between inventors and regulators untenable. At MIT, Masny has taught ethics of technology courses, led a student research group on deepfakes, and helped integrate philosophical scrutiny into computer science and engineering projects. He will join the University of Colorado at Boulder in fall 2026.
