A proposed five-level rating system evaluates AI labs based on their commercial ambition rather than actual revenue. The scale ranges from Level 5 (already profitable) to Level 1 (no commercial focus). Four prominent AI labs are analyzed: Humans& (Level 3) has vague workplace tool plans, Thinking Machines Lab faces uncertainty after executive departures, World Labs (Level 4) has shipped commercial products in spatial AI, and Safe Superintelligence (Level 1) prioritizes research over commercialization. The framework helps clarify which AI companies are genuinely pursuing profitability versus conducting research.
