Hi I’ve been testing Zed as my main IDE for work and side projects for the last 10 days. (Config : MacOS and Ubuntu 22 + i3WM)
T’ill now I am loving it !
I love the integrated VIM motions, which are a really important feature
for me.
I use to face issues with VSCode’s VIM extension.
And my Jetbrain’s IDE (Webstorm / Pychram) is taking (Waaaaaay) too much memory.
So far so good, I’m going on with it for now !
Have you tried Zed ?

TBH I have been testing it for quite a while. It has a lot less features than VSCode and its forks (most of which are derived from extensions), so it is not very useful for people who are used to extensions. I use it as my default text editor though, as it is very fast and feature rich in that sense.

Waiting for the official windows build

Honestly its kinda sad that after the preview period it will be paid, i mean sure if it has good features i would pay for it, but if it doesn’t have any special features i’ll just use VSCode.

I have been rocking Zed for the last couple of months, and have been happy. I work both on a macbook and junktop running Manjaro, so having a cross-platform, light-weigt IDE is huge… I am transitioning to a LazyVim IDE, however (because I like being a pain in the ass) but Zed is still waiting in the wings if I screw up Nvim’s config and have to get work done…
