WordPress 7.0 is the first major release of 2026, introducing a new AI Connectors screen that lets you link OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Anthropic Claude to your site from a central dashboard. The block editor gains responsive visibility controls (show/hide blocks per device), per-block custom CSS, smarter color-coded visual revisions, and three new native blocks: Icons, Breadcrumbs, and Headings. The admin UI gets a refresh with faster screen transitions and a site-wide Command Palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K). Developer additions include pseudo-element support in theme.json, PHP-only block registration, Block Selectors API, Font Library available across all theme types, WP-CLI 3.0, and a minimum PHP requirement of 7.4. Real-time collaboration was pulled before release and remains in development via the Gutenberg plugin.
