I’m sure this comment really shows my age, but many years ago I used Microsoft FrontPage to design a website. When I looked at the generated code, it was so wasteful that I vowed to write it by hand from then on.
If you applied “bold text” to a substring it would put the expected &lt;bold&gt;YourBoldTextHere&lt;/bold&gt; tags around it. If you later decided that you’d rather not have it in bold, it would change your HTML into:
&lt;bold&gt;&lt;/bold&gt;YourNoLongerBoldTextHere&lt;bold&gt;&lt;/bold&gt;
If you were playing around with design (I’m a good developer but a below average graphic designer,) Your source would have so much extra and unnecessary tags that it would make your head spin. This was circa 2003 and I would hope that WYSIWYG has improved dramatically over the last nineteen years, but I’m so used to type the HTML out by hand and get that quickening of the breath when you look at it and it is looks perfect, that it would probably take a lot for me to return to WYSIWYG HTML editors.

I use ckeditor which I integrated in my application and it works extremely well. I even develop plugins to add custom buttons. the only problem is that if the text is several hundred lines long there is latency
