I agree with you, but I would like to say something: every company has senior employees, so they might not let you reach the CTO position 😁. But you are right — traditionally, it takes 10 to 15 years to become a CTO.

You can become a CTO in 1 day if you launch a startup and just call yourself one too. :)
Each of these steps takes years of some good, dedicated work. The steps are proper (vague, but proper), but I don’t feel the timeline is feasible for anyone achieving it in a “from 0 to CTO” in a 5y setup whatsoever for an existing org.
There is always someone more senior with the same drive you have, and there is an existing CTO in an org already, so… it’s an uphill battle in a way. And being an architect/VP (which still needs people leadership and business acumen) is not at all the same as making strategic company-wide decisions, which the C-suite is responsible for.
