A NordProtect-commissioned survey of 2,078 Americans reveals that 55% of romance scam victims consider it more shameful than other fraud types, with nearly 19% not reporting incidents at all. Men are disproportionately affected — 19% of male respondents lost money to romance scams versus 11% of women — and men aged 35–44 are most frequently targeted. Underreporting is especially high among victims who lost smaller amounts (26%). Most victims report to banks or local police rather than the FBI's IC3 or the FTC, leaving key law enforcement channels underutilized.
