<p>The year 2025 witnessed an unprecedented surge in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, marking a record-breaking 31.4 Tbps assault as part of an overall increase in DDoS activities. Throughout the year, there were 47.1 million attacks, more than double the incidents from the previous year. This equated to an average of 5,376 mitigated attacks per hour.</p>
<p>Among the myriad of threats, the Aisuru-Kimwolf botnet campaign stood out with its ability to launch attacks generating 205 million requests per second, mainly using infected Android TVs. These attacks highlighted a shift in pattern toward shorter, more intense traffic bursts designed to avoid human intervention, often completing in under two minutes.</p>
<p>Network-layer DDoS attacks tripled compared to the previous year, with telecommunications providers bearing the brunt as the most targeted industry. Geographically, the United Kingdom experienced a significant rise in attack incidents, leaping 36 places to become the sixth most-targeted country worldwide. Several attacks originated from compromised IoT devices and cloud-based virtual machines (VMs), leveraging vulnerabilities to create pervasive network disruptions. Meanwhile, Bangladesh emerged as the largest source of these attacks, with a notable portion emanating from cloud computing platforms and local telecommunications providers.</p>
<p>The evolving threat landscape underscores the necessity for robust autonomous defense systems capable of quickly detecting and mitigating these rapid, large-scale attacks. As traditional reactive measures prove inadequate against the velocity and scale of modern DDoS operations, proactive and automated solutions remain crucial to safeguarding digital infrastructures.</p>
