1Password and OpenAI have integrated a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server into the Codex AI coding tool to secure developer credentials. The integration enables just-in-time credential issuance, ensuring secrets are never logged, cached, reused across sessions, or exposed in model context windows. Secrets remain encrypted in the 1Password vault and are never surfaced as plain text to AI agents or LLMs. DevSecOps teams can manage AI coding agents as tenants with centralized, permission-based access control. 1Password plans to extend this approach to additional AI coding tools, positioning itself as a unified credential management platform for both human developers and their AI agents.
